Honestly had to put the book down and check the character list a few times, it gets a bit sprawling. The absolute core is Lena, the narrator. She’s this artist living in a coastal town, haunted by these incredibly vivid dreams of a life she’s never lived. Her whole arc is trying to figure out if she’s going crazy or if these dreams are a memory from somewhere else.

The other half of the central pair is Theo. He appears first in her dreams as this idealized, almost mythical figure, but then she starts seeing a man who looks just like him working at the local museum. Their dynamic drives the whole mystery—is he just a random guy she’s projecting onto, or is there a deeper connection? The tension between them, this push-pull of recognition and doubt, is basically the engine of the plot.

The story really hinges on the triangle of Lena’s internal struggle, Theo’s ambiguous role, and Martin’s friendship. I kept waiting for one of them to turn out to be secretly evil or something, but it’s subtler than that.
