“What’s wrong? What was he doing?” I shook my head. “I don’t… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have started this. You don’t want to hear this.” “No, please.” She nearly lost her hold on Anniston so she could grip my arm again to waylay me when I went to stand. “I do want to hear. What? What did you see?” I sank slowly into my chair and sent her a sad glance. “He was dying,” I whispered. Then I shook my head. “He’s always dying, the same way. In every dream.”

I chuckle sadly. “What do you keep seeing?” she holds my hands, concern in her tone and on her face. “Blood, everywhere. Dad..slit throat” I clear my throat and swallow my tears, “I've been lying to myself, following everyone including mum to say he died of natural causes” I scoff, “I was there that night or..or I think I was” “But you weren't, we were together when we got the news” “Exactly, but then…this dream keeps haunting me. It keeps…it keeps replaying in my head, I can't sleep, I keep taking meds but those..it doesn't work”

I nod approvingly. I mostly do want to get the fuck out of here, but my heart can’t leave until I know he’s dead. I sigh and strike a match, lighting the whole pack on fire and dropping it inside. His eyes go wide with the realization he’s about to really and truly die. That fear on his face is priceless to me. I never dreamed I’d get this chance. I’ve always assumed I’d be stuck with the memory of him attacking me and never have closure. The fear would plague me for the rest of my life, even now that I have a mate.

All that she could think of was how the feeling of death lingered about even in her awakened system. Raising her shaking hands, she couldn’t help but imagine they would dismantle any moment now. A shiver ran down her spine. She shook her head. No way. She would never die. Not this way. She still had a lot of truths to uncover, a lot of dreams to catch, and she couldn’t disappoint herself when she’d already come this far. Besides, unless she realized why she kept dreaming of death, she’d never be able to acknowledge peace; not when her mind kept nagging her with hundreds of hypotheses for why she had to see it, each one more absurd than the next.
