The tension in my shoulders refuses to ease, but something in me shifts, unsettled.
“Well,” Narisa, my younger sister, speaks hesitantly, twisting a strand of her hair around her fingers. Her smile is timid, but there’s something playful in her expression. “It took me a few months, but I figured it out, too.”
I tense, my stomach twisting uncomfortably.

“Rowan always shifts when he fights,” she continues, tilting her head thoughtfully. “His wolf, Rune, isn’t violent. He’s a sweetheart. But you…” She looks at me knowingly. “Even without your wolf, you have a bloody way of dealing with things.”
