Taming the varsity player
He walked over to the door, his large hand resting on the brass handle before he turned back to look at me one last time.
"Get some sleep," Mike said softly. "You're safe up here."
"Goodnight, Mike," I murmured.
"Goodnight, Eloise."
The door clicked shut, plunging the room into darkness. I buried my face into the high collar of his massive hoodie, the rich, woodsy scent of him completely enveloping me as I closed my eyes, my heart aching with a beautiful, terrifying new realization: the slow burn was officially turning into something I couldn't escape.
