He looked up at Elara, his eyes sharp now, awake in a way I had never seen. “He is not just the True Heir anymore,” Papa said. Elara nodded slowly. “No, he is not.” I looked between them. “What am I?” Papa swallowed. “I do not know yet,” he admitted. “But you are mine.” The humming in my chest shifted. It pulled not hard, just enough. I turned toward the mountains, Papa followed my gaze. “What is it?” he asked. I listened past the walls, past the noise, past the fear.

Laurent, beside me shifts slightly, but says nothing. And that’s when Elias moves a bit. It’s not a defensive or uncomfortable shift, but rather, a small one that’s supposed to get my attention. “I didn’t expect this to be how we met,” he says, his voice calm and unapologetic. I give him my attention again, and swallow through the tightening in my throat. Before I can speak, however, Father exhales, as if we’ve reached the part of this drama he’s been waiting for. “I understand this is a lot,” he says from his seat, and I catch him leaning back from the corner of my eyes. “But this is exactly why we are here.”

I whispered against his shoulder. “I'm here now,” he said and pulled back. His eyes were red, tired, furious, and afraid. He went straight to our father and gently touched his hand. “Father, it's Elario. We are here.” I moved next to him, taking his other hand and holding on tight. His eyelids flickered, just a quick twitch, but I saw it. “Wait,” I whispered, startled. “Look.” Elario leaned closer. [Elise’s POV] I continue to stare at the pile of ash in front of me while Jose’s words repeat themselves again and again in my head. He’s gone. He’s gone. He’s gone. Each time they appear, I feel something in me crack more and more, until I’m letting out a snarl of rage and turning my gaze toward my father. “You!” I growl, watching him attempt to get up. “THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!”

I asked as they veered to meet my odd glare "Nothing!" Elijah says but the look in her eyes got me to think otherwise, Elena gets up and blabbed out the weirdest question, "Mom, please tell me who my real father is! He stood up and put his hands inside the pocket of his trousers. I pressed my lips. “I… I saw my father,” I said and met his gaze. He nodded.
