Chapter 23: The Ghost _POV: David Benz David didn’t panic. David never panicked. Panic was for men who hadn’t watched their father bleed out on a parking garage floor at age seventeen. Panic was for boys who thought the world was fair. So when the Dubai police captain read Jennifer’s charges at 3:47 AM, David catalogued the room. Three exits. Six armed men. One camera with a blinking red light that meant live feed to someone who wasn’t in the room.

He had once thought that Alan had stronger feelings for his beloved, so he had regarded the man as a rival. "Now listen to me. Whether you choose to believe me or not is your business. The fact is, tomorrow I will prevent Elena from entering that building. Tonight, Nicklaus Hunter's men will plant bombs in every corner of the building, especially at the entrance. The bombs can be controlled remotely, waiting for Elena and Alan to step inside." Slowly, David backed away. At least he had conveyed everything. At least Nathan didn’t immediately shoot him, unlike Jack Reeves. "You know, sometimes even a bad guy like me still has a heart."

This book was such an adventure… It had my attention from the very first page, down to the last… I had a few laughs… almost shed a few tears… but I guess that was all the relief I needed from the emotional cluster I felt. I lowkey wish the book didn’t have an ending. Cause now that I’m done with it… I have to focus on the reality I’ve been trying to avoid. The reality that Dimitri might still be alive… The door to my office suddenly opens, and when I look up, it’s David. David!? What is he doing here? Isn’t he supposed to be with Vanessa?

They were also in the same hot fire I was in with Diana McCoy. “We’ve been asking that for a long time…” David yawned. “What are we gonna do? What’s L’ Viuda Blanca gonna do to us? Why us?” He stretched. “Leading us back to my solution for our future in this shit: let’s quit this case.” “No,” I replied almost immediately.
