Can the blend work in a non-contemporary setting? Historical erotic thrillers, or fantasy ones, are trickier but possible. The core mechanics are the same: desire mixed with mortal or political danger. The constraints of the setting (social rules in historicals, magic systems in fantasy) just become another source of tension. The forbidden element might be stronger, and the stakes might involve kingdoms instead of corporations, but the human heart at the center, torn between attraction and fear, remains timeless.
