Esther sat before us, bound and glaring, her lips curled in a defiant sneer. Her once perfectly combed hair was now a tangled mess, her clothes tattered from the struggle that had finally brought her to her knees. Despite her disheveled appearance, there was something unnervingly composed about her. Her dark eyes seemed to glimmer with twisted amusement, as if this entire ordeal was just a game to her.
But it wasn’t.
Not to me.
I stepped forward, crossing my arms as I regarded her. Jake stood to my right, his expression carved from stone, and Althea to my left, her hands trembling slightly, though she tried to hide it. Behind us, Fatima lingered, her sharp gaze never leaving Esther.
