Saving Ava
Peyton slipped into the bathroom, leaving Carver and Ava in a palpable tension on the floor.
With Peyton gone, Ava shifted away from Carver, her eyes searching his. "What you just did was bullshit, Carver. You pushed me. Violently."
Carver's eyes, heavy with regret, locked onto Ava's, the weight of what he had done pressing on him visibly. He stuttered, "I—I know, Ava. I—I'm s-so deeply s-sorry." His voice trembled with the rawness of his emotions. "I promise, I promise, I'll never... I'll never touch you in anger again. Ever."
