Not with words, exactly—more like a pressure at the edge of my thoughts.
“Yes,” I whispered. “I can feel you.”
The black mirror quivered on its stand, as if something had brushed the glass from the other side.
I took a deep breath and began the chant again, this time faster, layering the syllables until they blurred.
“Venire… stringe… tene… meum… corpus…”
The bowl at my feet began to tremble. The mixture inside bubbled, spitting drops of red-black liquid onto the wood.
