Slowly. Painfully. The woman I fell in love with disappeared little by little. She stopped spending time with Amelia. Stopped caring about me. The attention. The luxury. The fame. I grabbed my purse and headed out the door, turning back for my book on the kitchen counter; reading books will forever be my first love. At The Tasty Place Diner I found what might be my new inspiration. He was tall, almost roughed, not too soft. I don’t know what to make of what happened. “Mr. Blackwood,” he had signed my book; who was he? He was light skinned. I usually like men a shade closer to purple. His chest was broad, too broad. Usually my men are slimmer. He had lazy eyes that looked intense just when he needed them to be. Bedroom McDreamy eyes... And he smiled like a humming bird, glorious and slick.

The textbooks slid to the floor with a loud thud, but neither of us cared. He crashed his lips onto mine, and the kiss was nothing like a teacher and a student. It was hungry, arrogant, and deep. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. I didn’t care about my grades, my parents, or the pain in my side. All I wanted was the man who was currently lifting me onto his desk, his hands moving shamelessly over my body. “Forget the book,” he whispered against my neck, his teeth grazing my skin. “I think it’s time for a different kind of lesson.”

he said firmly, wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me back against his chest. “Your Majesty—” “Do you think so little of yourself?” His voice was quiet but hard. “Do you think I wasn’t serious? That I only used you?” His arm tightened slightly. “You are the only woman I see myself spending my life with.” He turned my face toward his. “I meant every word. I intend to make you my wife.” He pressed a soft kiss between my brows. “Your Majesty, it’s not that,” I said, still trying to create some distance even as his hold remained steady. “I’m human. You’re a werewolf. This can’t work because of the laws between our kinds.”

I commanded softly against her mouth. I slammed into her one final, deep time, and the explosion hit us both at the exact same instant. "Mmmnnn-aah," she cried out loudly against my lips, her body clenching tightly around mine as a massive wave of ecstasy ripped through us both, leaving us gasping for air in the dim light. When the final tremors died down, I collapsed onto my side beside her with an exhausted sigh. I pulled her small body tight against my chest, wrapping my arms around her waist as our heartbeats gradually slowed down together.

Doing anything, everything. By sunrise, I had sent fourteen proposals, not one reply. Story of my life. I rubbed my eyes and glanced at the clock. Seven-thirty. Wonderful. Another day. Another opportunity for disappointment. The design studio was unusually quiet that morning. Rain tapped softly against the windows. The gray sky matched my mood pertectly. I was halfway through reviewing floor plans when my phone buzzed. It was Chloe. I answered immediately. "If you're calling to tell me I've won the lottery, I love you."
