Al immediately climbed onto a higher rock. “I’m king.” Gabby pushed him. Al cried. Peace was over. On the second day, we went to the aquarium. Al spent twenty minutes staring at a small shark with the expression of someone paying respect to a senior criminal. Gabby wore pink glitter sunglasses and named every fish like they were members of her palace staff.

Lexa Night falls on the Glade on the day of the second Trial, but the city is more alive than I’ve ever seen it. Kaleb walks steadily a few feet behind me, giving room for the pack to move out of their homes to watch me pass. The background was an absolute chaotic mess of roaring laughter and the heavy thud of wood. "Forddy!" Fabian barked, his voice thick with adrenaline and a light trace of alcohol. "What’s up?"
