Fahrenheit 451 Parlor Walls Novels & Stories

I asked Jackie. "Everybody knows and respects Mrs. Farrow. She's very famous in our world," she replied. "Your world?" I asked. "Well, you know, it's a metaphor." Jackie scratched her head and said. What kind of metaphor is that? I thought to myself. Jackie pushed a door and led me into a room. The white theme extended into this room. There was an imposing L-shaped sofa, which could seat at least ten people comfortably. On the wall, there was a modern-designed fireplace. I didn't know why there was a fire in a fireplace in the middle of summer, but the color of the fire looked pale compared to ordinary fires.

Ethan had not stepped outside his apartment in two days. The sun poured through his pulled blinds, filtering a dull haze over the tiny living room. Dishes piled in the sink. His laptop remained untouched on the coffee table. The air was thick, as if even the silence had grown too noisy to be avoided. But even now, every time he walked by that wall—**that damn wall**—his breath caught. He couldn't stop hearing her. Not the sounds of her with customers anymore. Those had stopped. But he heard her laugh softly on the phone. He heard her footsteps, the clinking of glass occasionally, the sound of water rushing.

vibration in the walls; the building felt grounded, heavy, and silent. Sophia sat on one of the cedar benches, watching the light from the Institute's LEDs reflect off the "gold-veined" walls. "It feels older now," she told Anya, who had joined her for a rare moment away from her screens. "Last week, it felt like a miracle. Today, it feels like a memory."

Yet this does not resemble anything dark and grey like I thought it would. It’s pretty, the walls are covered in soft blue wallpaper that matches the sofa, decorated with cherry blossom and peacocks. It’s stunning, I wonder how much something like that costs to cover the walls. A flat screen television hangs off the wall currently it is playing with a crackling fire scene, it’s warm and cozy lending itself to make me feel like kicking these damn uncomfortable shoes off my feet and curl up on the sofa with a neat whiskey in my hand. It’s late, I should go to bed, but my arousal needs to be satisfied first.

These people expected me to act a certain way, and anything less would result in my being kicked out in the cold. The Madam led me down a long hallway lined with more unsettling portraits. Their shrewd eyes seemed to follow our every move, judging as if they knew why I was here. The wallpaper beneath caught my eye and I tried not to frown at the wilted roses, so decayed the red hues were now a deep shade of rust brown. “Who on earth would want that as their wallpaper?” Ziva commented, and I couldn’t help but agree.

Chapter 144 The walls of Martha’s living room held an uncanny warmth, the kind only found in homes stitched together by shared grief and fragile hope. The morning sunlight slanted through the lace curtains, casting faint golden patterns on the carpet. It was peaceful, too peaceful, considering the storm that still raged inside Martin's chest.

*Pendwick* Pendwick did not realize he had stopped breathing until his lungs began to burn. The parlor—so recently too large, too curated, too smug in its velvet comfort—seemed to narrow on a hinge, collapsing into only three bodies and the space between them. Even the furnishings felt like they had stepped back: the coffee service cooling on its warmer, the sugared sweets sitting untouched beneath their glass domes, the gilt frames on the walls holding their painted serenity like a lie.

It was evening, so the conversation would take place over dinner. I entered through the double doors and stepped into the parlor, the lights on low, the smell of flowers and sandalwood in the air. I slid my hands into my pockets as I slowly paced around the room, gazing at the artwork on the walls that I didn’t care about. The furniture was dark, the rugs were dark too, and the walls were covered with a gray wallpaper. Everything matched Dante’s personality perfectly, dark and elegant.

Holden said under his breath, gripping her hand hard. The panel slid open a few inches—stopping, jamming, then forcing itself wider with a mechanical groan. The room inside was nothing like the burned orphanage. The walls were metallic. Clean. Unscorched. Preserved. As if the fire hadn’t touched it at all. As if it had been waiting. Holden inhaled sharply. “That’s impossible.” Elena stepped closer—unable to stop herself. Drawn, compelled, terrified but mesmerized. The light inside flickered to life.

I tell myself I’m here to understand what they are doing to Evan, what they did to Lucia, what they are doing to Leah. The reader accepts me immediately. The sound of the lock disengaging from the inside and the door opens. The room has no windows, no clocks, no concessions to time or weather. It is kept at a temperature designed to make bodies cooperative, cool enough that you are always slightly aware of your skin. The walls are painted matte white so nothing reflects back at you. The light is even, shadowless. It makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into a place where you can never hide. There are three screens mounted on the far wall. A long table beneath them. Two chairs.
