I promise you.” My throat tightened. “I am scared,” I admitted. “I am scared of getting hurt again.” I licked my lips, my voice uneven. “And you are my best friend. That makes it… complicated.” He took my hands in his, "Don't be scared. You know I'd never hurt you. I'll love you with my entire existence, baby..." He whispered, and the sincerity in his eyes tore at my heart, “Who better to fall in love with than your best friend? I know you, Crystal. I know your fears, your scars, your strength. That is why I am your best bet right now. Because I am the one person who will never hurt you.”

I had to make sure my heart wouldn't break, so I stood taller, arching my back, willing the fear which grasped my heart tightly back down. "Adam, I guess I believe you. But I wish it were easier for me to see that you were truly real. I mean, come on, don't you know that I have been having these weird hallucinations?" I smiled softly at the painting, thinking about the real matter and how it wasn't allowed. "Dhruv and I were close, very close. I was his only best friend. One day, we kissed on his fifteenth birthday, and next morning, he remembered nothing because of being drunk. I was going to tell him when he told me he had a crush on some other girl."
