Se connecterHis face was inches from mine. His breath ghosted over my lips—warm, whiskey-scented from dinner and my body remembered him instantly: the way he’d pinned my wrists, the slow grind of his hips, the filthy things he’d growled in my ear while I came apart beneath him. He leaned in. I felt the pull—like gravity, like hunger. My lips parted on instinct. Just one more inch and we’d be kissing again, messy and desperate, right here in his car like teenagers who couldn’t wait. But reality crashed in. I jerked back, pressing myself against the door. “We can’t.” His jaw ticked. “Why not?” "Because I practically raised you.” My voice shook. “Because your mom is my best friend and I'm way older than you..." "I don't care" he bit out, shocking me even further. "I’ve wanted you since I was old enough to know what wanting meant. And don’t pretend like you don't feel something too." Sophie helped raise him. She was there for homework, school runs, and the lonely years when his parents were too busy. To her, he was just her best friend’s son. Years later, she catches her husband cheating on their anniversary and loses her unborn child due to the shock, Sophie spends the night with a stranger that she never expects to see again. But the stranger is Antonio — the boy she once helped raise. Now he’s all grown up. Powerful. Successful. And off limits. She manages to escape from him — so she thinks — until days later, she gets hired in a fashion company where Antonio is the CEO.

"You're two months pregnant, Sophie" my best friend Vanessa said in an annoyed tone, over the phone. "You shouldn't be stressing yourself. He should be the one making the effort"
I sighed. I knew she was right but a stubborn part of me didn't want to take heed.
"It's our anniversary today. I need to do something special for him" I said as I holding up two different brands of pasta, undecided on which one to pick.
"I know Ryan and I have had our rough patches, but I still believe we can make things work" I added and I heard Vanessa's resigned sigh over the phone.
"Okay Soph, call me when it's over" she said. "And please don't overdo it"
"I won't" I chuckled and hung up.
I picked a few more things and I went to pay.
I was so sure that it would take a while before Ryan forgot the surprise dinner I was about to plan for him.
He'd texted me earlier, saying that he'd be back from his business trip by evening so I wanted to prepare everything in anticipation of his arrival.
I felt it in my bones that this would be our best anniversary ever.
***********
When I got home, the first thing I noticed was Ryan’s shoes by the door.
Was he back already? Wow, there went my surprise dinner.
Then I saw a pair of black heels right next to his shoes.
Had a woman visited him?
Maybe it was a colleague? Or a client?
Trying not to think too much, I carried the groceries into the kitchen and set them down.
“Baby?” I called out lightly. “Are you home?”
There was no answer.
"Ryan..." I called again as I approached the bedroom.
That was when I heard it.
Low moaning sounds, heavy breathing and a woman’s soft gasp.
My body went cold.
No. No. No.
It couldn't be what I thought it was.
I immediately rushed to the door and opened it.
And then I saw them.
Ryan, my husband.
On our bed with a strange woman.
I felt my throat tighten and my head spin.
My husband—the one whom I was planning a surprise dinner for our anniversary—was completely naked, hips driving forward in steady, rhythm over another woman.
She was on her back beneath him on our white sheets, legs hooked high around his waist, red-painted nails digging into his shoulders.
The worst part of it all was that he saw me.
Our eyes met the moment I entered the room.
But he didn't stop.
His mouth curved into an amused smirk as he continued.
Only after he shuddered hard, buried deep one last time, and let out that long, satisfied exhale did he finally ease out of her.
Only then did he roll to the side, reach for the boxers he’d tossed on the floor earlier, and pull them on with lazy, unhurried movements.
That was when he spoke.
“Oh,” he said, voice perfectly even, as though I’d just walked in on him reading a report. “You’re back.”
Sophie Days followed and I poured my time into job applications. Before I married Ryan, I was a top fashion designer with twelve years of experience but I had to give that all up to be the perfect wife for him. Now, I was forty-two, almost divorced and rebuilding from scratch. I opened my laptop and applied everywhere. Six companies at once. I even enlisted Nicole’s help. I needed her influence. Four days later, I woke up in the morning to the shrill ring of my phone. It was Nicole. She had traveled a few days earlier for work—some research assignment in Europe that involved late nights and endless data analysis—and I hadn’t expected to hear from her so early. I swiped to answer, my voice coming out croaky and thick with sleep.“Nicole? Everything okay?”Her voice was full of excitement, almost vibrating with energy.“Sophie! Listen to me! AG Enterprises just got back to me… they’re offering you the job!”“What?!” I sat up, heart pounding."Yes! You’ve been hired as a top fashion
Sophie He glanced over, eyes steady on the road. “At first, I didn’t.” he said. “I’d hired someone. Thought she’d show up, but then you walked in, drunk and gorgeous and telling me to strip.” His mouth curved—just the barest hint of a smirk. “You climbed onto my lap before I could even process it and I wasn’t about to stop you.”Heat flooded my face. “That’s not— I thought you were—”“I know what you thought.” He shifted gears smoothly, his voice dropping lower. “And I don’t regret a single second of it.”I stared straight ahead, gripping my purse like a lifeline. “It was a mistake. A horrible, drunken mistake. You need to forget it happened.”“I haven’t forgotten.” His tone was quiet, almost gentle, but the undercurrent was pure heat. “And from the way you were looking at me tonight… neither have you.”My breath hitched. “I barely looked at you.”He scoffed. "Sure"A part of me wanted to leave it but a more persistent, curious part of me overrode. "The morning after" I began, "Why
Sophie The dinner I'd looked forward to now felt like torture. The air felt suffocating. The hairs on my body stood and I was hyperaware of everything —the clink of cutlery, the sound of everyone's voices, especially Antonio's. I couldn't believe what I'd gotten myself into. Vanessa, oblivious to my discomfort, glowed with pride. “So tell us, Antonio how well did you enjoy Italy? Did you meet anyone special there?”He looked up and our gazes met. I reflexively looked away, keeping my eyes on my plate. "Italy was good. And no, I didn't meet anyone special there." he answered smoothly, confidently. His voice was deeper than I remembered. "As a matter of fact, I have met someone special here..." He mumbled. My head snapped up and I caught him staring again. His gaze flicked to my lips now, then lower—brief, deliberate—before returning to my eyes. Desire simmered there, dark and unapologetic, mixed with something sharper: recognition."Oh really? But you just arrived" Vanessa chir
Sophie The next morning, sunlight streamed across my face.I groaned softly and rolled over. Then I froze as I remembered where I was and all that happened yesterday. I turned my head and he was there. He was asleep beside me. Hair slightly messy and face looking relaxed, softer in the morning light. Still devastatingly handsome.Butterflies fluttered in my stomach and I crushed them instantly. What did you do, Sophie? I chided myself as reality set in.I had just lost my baby.My marriage had ended. And all I could do was sleep with a stranger? No this was a mistake and I needed to get out of here asap!I slipped out of bed quietly and began gathering my clothes. My head throbbed, still hungover from last night and it made my movements clumsy. I rushed to put on my underwear, then clothes. As I pulled the dress over my head, my heel caught in the fabric.I lost my balance and fell.Oh no!The noise echoed in the room and he woke up.I stayed still, too embarrassed to move."He
