Touched and angry at the same time. Touched that he'd cared enough to think about what I'd want. Angry that he'd been planning my imprisonment. I pushed those complicated feelings aside and kept browsing. The fiction section was extensive. Mystery novels. Thrillers. Fantasy. Literary fiction. And romance novels. A whole shelf of them. I pulled one out, curious. The cover showed a shirtless man with tattoos and a woman in a provocative pose. Very dramatic. Very over-the-top. I flipped it over to read the back.

“Fantasy?” Came the uncertain inquiry through the bullhorn that sounded out loudly amongst the hustle and bustle of the crowded pier. Raising my hand I picked up my duffel bag and began making my way forward. As I walked the men about me stared. They always stared. It was kind of nice and yet annoying at the same time. It didn’t help that my Russian born mother so enamored with her relocation to a new and in her eyes, ‘fantasy land’ of America had named me as such.

She was just a reader—hungry for escape. She paused when her eyes landed on a cover that practically glowed under the soft overhead light. A werewolf love novel. The title was in cursive silver: Moonbound Desire. The cover featured a fierce, shirtless alpha holding a trembling woman in his arms, both cloaked by moonlight and mystery. It was utterly ridiculous—and exactly what she needed. Ryleigh pulled it from the shelf and smiled to herself. She checked it out at the front desk with Miss Ada, who glanced at the cover and gave her a knowing look but didn’t say a word.

I nod and look around. “Where is the book?” I ask. She wasn’t carrying anything when she entered the room. “I always carry it with me, you just can’t see it,” Shanna explains. She mutters a couple of strange words, holds out her hand, and a book appears and falls onto it. The cover is fine leather engraved with a vine-like design that swirls around the edges of a large picture. The picture depicts a woman standing with her arms stretched up above her head. Above her, there are stars in the sky and I swear I see one twinkle. Shanna opens to the first page and I am stunned to see a spell.

Artemisia had briefly forgotten that that day wasn't normal, she's starting to realize, and think, that maybe she's not the one who's going crazy. The girl approached the shelves and Helga's voice danced again in her mind. "The navy blue cover book will tell you a story, I can't tell you which one, only the book is entitled to that." Artemisia didn't understand, but soon found the book near the second door. It was a heavy book, but not as thick as expected. It had a glow reminiscent of sunbeams touching the greenish water of a river or lake. It also had nymphs drawn on the cover and side of the leaves.

This' where the meeting would be held. The small library at the wall is stocked with a few interesting books to use and pass some time. I pick up a book that attracts my attention, from a glimpse of it, I detect that it's a romance fantasy. The gold and red combination of the cover with the stylish golden fonts captivates me, the front has a young girl holding on her palms what looks like a magical spindle, with a glowing light around it. The title goes, "When you're alone." A subscript writes, "A supermodel story of the girl who single handedly achieves the most difficult goals."

Yet another fantasy Prologue Legora, the largest capital city in the world. Once one of nine, now there are four. We had lost five cities in the great calamity. Creatures from god knows where poured in from a tear in the earth. A dimensional tear in space and time the men of science called it, but really who the fuck knows? All I know is they were bigger, stronger, looked nothing like us and they outnumbered us hundred to one.

From the inscriptions on the width of some of the books, they were history books, although some were written in some other foreign language. Picking out the blue book, I discovered it was a novel, like I had thought. It was titled 'Enchanted.' "Always loved fantasy novels..." I mumbled to myself, holding the book to my chest. I noticed though that the book's cover was stark, not like the usual books I read which usually had the pictures of a man or woman as its cover. But that didn't deter me. The name was interesting. My legs led me back to the board. A mystery to solve. I thought, biting my lips. I would have to tell Jeremy first. It would be nice to have some action and adventure here.

On the cover was the word, “Bitten” Raven opened the book and felt a surge of power. The pages looked empty at first but a flash of light lit up behind every word as they appeared. This book had been enchanted. “This is from your father’s library. It contains the tale of the child born of the Bitten and the Born.”
