Elena's POV The mask was a delicate, laser-cut piece of obsidian lace that felt like a spider clinging to my face with cold, spindly legs. It obscured my eyes, casting the world into a fractured, shadowy peripheral where every guest looked like a potential executioner. In the mirror, I didn’t recognize the woman staring back. The dress for tonight was a deep, blood-red velvet—a color of passion, or perhaps a color of warning. It was heavy, the skirt rustling with a low, ominous sound every time I moved, echoing the frantic, erratic throb of my heart.

A gasp escaped my lips as the light shone on Nana, seated on a chair in the middle of the large room, her mouth gagged and fear written all over her face. A man, dressed in black and in a black mask stood behind her with a gun to her head. "No!" I whispered as I looked on. "So this is the knight in shining armor?" A voice came from my right and I almost jumped out of surprise. There was another man dressed like the first man, sitting on a chair to my right. "Who are you and what do you want?" I asked angrily. "I just want what is mine." His voice was so calm as he spoke. It was eerily calm, like he had done it numerous times, and taken the lives of some unlucky few.

"Do you take this woman to be your wife, to stand by her through thick and thin?" "I do," the man said, his voice muffled by the mask. The guests whispered in awe. Howard Larson, the Larson family's big shot, was so in love with me that he would not let a bad cold stop our big day. He did not want to disappoint me. "Wait a second." The man's eyes darted around, and his forehead was dotted with sweat. I smiled and asked, "Howard, you're looking a bit pale. Too busy with the wedding to remember your medicine?"

Pain shoots up my side, making me wince. I throw my hands up quickly, shielding my face as my stalker stands over me. "Please." I cry out. "I'll give you whatever you want. Just don't hurt me. Please." For a few seconds, nothing happens. My entire body is trembling from fear. When I finally open my eyes and look up, I see him standing there. I didn't notice the strange mask on his face earlier. It's an eerie teddy bear mask, covering the whole of his face, which makes him more terrifying because I've only seen him with a black face mask.

Vicky let go of the box, and the mask inside fell onto the floor with a loud thud. Her blood ran cold at the sight of the mask. Her lashes fluttered, and she started to feel lightheaded from the intense fear. Her nightmare had returned. "Vicky?" Both Cece and Jennifer turned to look at her in shock. Though the mask looked devilish, it was not special in any way. They could not understand why Vicky would react this way.

When we were both facing the mirror with me behind her and her eyes on my reflecting version, I heard her swallow, I knew she still feared me, but I was grateful she was willing to come nearer to me. It meant the world to me. I brought out the mask, it was made with black lace, and I was sure it was the right one, for as soon as I put it on Cheryl, I couldn't blink away. Her silky blonde hair and red lipstick matched the mask. She was rare. She was one of a kind.
