The dog in me could not take the insult so, I growled proving just how much of a dog I was. He threw his hands in the air in frustration. “It’s either that or I have all of you killed then I won’t have to worry about fairies anymore. Your king will be the stuff of legends. That there once was a specie called the fairies. The books say they used to look like this and that. The story will be told so many times that the truth about your kind will be lost in translation and soon you will all be forgotten. Is that what you want?”

Creatures of legend, long lost to time, but still mentioned in whispers by those who believed. My eyes skimmed over the names, fascinated by the variety of beings that had once walked the earth. There were shadow walkers, creatures made of living darkness; phoenixes, birds of fire and rebirth; and water nymphs, elusive beings who lived in the depths of the ocean. My heart quickened as I read, excitement bubbling up inside me. The world was so vast, filled with mysteries and wonders I had never even imagined. As I turned the pages, I found myself lost in the world of the book, captivated by the endless possibilities it presented.

Dorian, still processing the information, muttered, “A fairy? I never thought we would meet a fairy.” Kane, making an unusual connection, asked, “So it's like the tooth fairy?” Ignis corrected, “No, it's not like the tooth fairy because she doesn't exist.” Cassian, still skeptical of what Ignis was saying, commented, “Werewolves also don't exist, but you just told us we are.” Ignis, understanding the boys' perplexity, patiently explained, “There are many things in this world that are beyond common understanding. Werewolves, Peeira, and other creatures exist.”

Humans are known to be far crueller than we could ever be. That is why most of these creatures hid behind fiction.”

The second we made it to the stables, Priya began blabbing away. The scope of her titanic exaggerations made me out to be...supernatural. The essence of her retelling had me smiting an entelodont (aka the very extinct Hell Pig) with a lightning bolt from the cloudless sky, pre-cooking the beast. I then caused rich, buttery Tasso to rain down like Manna from above. Did that make me the Cajun Santa Claus? I wanted to find a hole to hide in.
