She shouted nervously, imitating him sarcastically, while he continued in annoyance "Secondly, yes it's a joke. You can't be human." She looked at him angrily “Why is that , do I have different DNA than humans?” He looked at her with extreme anger, before he let out the breath he was trying to hold to say nervously “Yes, you cannot be human, because humans are just mythical creatures, and they are more like the Zoldyck.” “The only legendary thing I saw in this place is humans turning into wolves, which is what happens in fairy tales. Then what do you mean by Zoldyck?”

“I’ve lived long enough to know there are things no amount of books or lessons can replace. But curiosity… that’s universal. You have it.” Our conversations often turn to the forgotten. The trinkets and ancient tomes Ramon keeps speak of extinct supernatural species, myths and legends barely remembered. “Tasha, we love you. We don’t want you to leave us.” I wrapped my arms around his neck. “I am not leaving you guys. I just need to know the truth. Why won’t you just tell me?” He picked me up and I put my legs around his waist. “What if I told you that the bears in the forest woods were really people and the king of bears wants you to be his mate?” My eyes widened. “I would tell you that as awesome as that sounds, people don’t shift into animals. Even if they did, who has ever heard of a bear? Wolves, sure, but never a bear.”

She laughed and I felt it next to me like something the room needed and hadn't realized it did. “Your turn,” I said. She paused for a moment. “I can’t watch sad films,” she said. “At all. Even a little sad. Even movies that are mostly happy but have one sad scene. I have to get out of the room.” She paused. “Lily thinks this is hilarious because I am — in most respects — a very emotionally resilient person in real life and then a fictional dog dies and I’m out.” “Fictional dogs particularly?” “Any animal, really. I can manage humans. Animals destroy me.” She paused. “I have considered this. I think it’s because they don’t know they’re in a story. They’re just -- there. And then they’re not.”

Time seemed to be moving more slowly as we drew nearer to the water beneath us. 3. Winning my sixth grade spelling bee... "Oh, like the elves and dwarfs?" Cammie prompted. At that point, I had to keep myself from falling off of the bench. I guess I would rather talk to a tree instead of these two genius girls. "That's fictional characters, Cammie," I said. "So you tell us then," she said.

I said. “Yeah. Pretty much.” He said. “Well, they know that I’m here. What are those things?” I asked. “Sphinx.” A soldier said. “Human headed lions.” I said. “You know your animals.” The King said. “They’re mythical creatures in my world. They don’t exist except in story books.” I said. “Well, they are very real here.” He said. I stood and watched as the lions ran closer to the castle before the King gave the order. The arrows and cannons were set off and they were aimed at as many of those creatures as possible.

Andrew explains as he shrugs, "That's what I told you! Wolfies only exist in books today." Fictional books... Unlike in my day, books are all about facts about werewolves. Only a few novel types. Most titles of the books here are stating someone without actually telling their names: The Rogue Alpha, The Despicable Luna, The Rejected Beta... My Silver Wolf!? But what happened? Why are they fiction if I exist? "Auntie," Linly mumbles, "do we have to know about werewolves today? We should just go back since we can't find any clue."
