Chapter 2 Ava’s POV “God, it’s fucking boiling up here even with the window cracked,” I muttered, kicking the thin sheet off my legs for the third time in ten minutes. The loft fan spun slow circles above us, doing jack shit to move the sticky air. Moonlight slipped through the slats, painting pale stripes across the mattress we were forced to share because the guest rooms were still torn apart with paint cans and plastic sheeting.

She slowly lowered the book, staring at Alura with wide, delighted eyes. "Oh my god," Nessa gasped. "This is about CEO Hunt. You are writing smutty fanfiction about your own boss!" "It's not smutty!" Alura wailed, peeking through her fingers. "It's just....a little bit romantic tension" "Even when he's being grumpy over petty things, I think I'm busy blinded by how much pull I feel towards him?!" Nessa teased mercilessly, leaning against the counter. "I knew it! I knew you liked the crazy tyrant!"

I pick it up and begin thumbing through it. "Hey, babe, what do you think of this?" I show the front to Tiffany as she rounds the corner. "What is it?" "It's called Peanut's Wish." I flip through some of the pages. "It looks it's about a baby who can't wait to be born, or… I don't know. It sounds weird when I say that. It looks cute though."

She whined and I plopped onto the bed and stared at the ceiling dreaming instead of paying her any further attention, at least I knew Alpha Fleki had a thing for her but I wasn't in the mood to listen to her deny it. “I’d like a gorgeous little fan so I could hold it halfway over my nose and pretend like I could be snobby because I’d come from a prominent family” I giggled as I imagined just how silly it’d be to act that out. I am a genius. Where the hell is my medal? My royal teacher used to call me a divine example of floccinaucinihilipilification aka the action or habit of anticipating something as worthless. The moron used to call me worthless? Me? Sweet little me?

I felt stupid enough to apologize to him tomorrow and bring him a cookie. A flood of nonsense hit first: roleplay forums; romance book rec lists that looked suspiciously like my browsing history from lonely winters; wikis that read like teenagers high on Mountain Dew had built them at three in the morning. I dug harder, forcing my way past fanfic to the kind of folklore sites with ugly fonts and long paragraphs.

"You know what? Maybe you'll even end up working for me someday. Just look at your pathetic self in the mirror. What do you even have left for yourself?" I stopped putting her things away and looked at her with a smile. "What about you? What do you have left for yourself?" Melinda's expression fell. "What do you mean by that?" I said, "You swapped out somebody else's fans for yourself, didn't you? I remember you being in contact with a huge influencer some time ago, and her number of fans and followers has been steadily dropping. You swapped them over to yourself, didn't you?" Melinda turned deathly pale. Even the blush on her cheeks couldn't mask how ashen her face was.

"You wanted to escape getting married to me so bad, that you washed me with insults in front of my Dad. That was mortifying." My face heated in embarrassment. The waiter brought wine and I took a sip from my glass quickly before mumbling. "Ah yeah. I did that. Sorry about that." "Oh it's fine," he laughed. "So, I'm guessing you were inspired by the ten fanfictions written on our names?" I almost spat the wine in my mouth all over the table. "Do we have fanfictions? What the hell?" He shrugged. "Should I pretend I hate them too?"

It's finally here! Finding Us, formerly known as ‘Crazy About Boys | Finding The One’ when it was originally written on Wattpad, is a New Adult Fiction novel, which is a subgenre of Romance. Since there isn't a New Adult Fiction tag, I'm forced to use the Romance tag. However, there isn't much of a difference, except the aforementioned explains the book better.
