The pool was a magnet, with cannonballs and laughter echoing as friends splashed each other. Summer led a group in a synchronized dance routine, her energy infectious, while Nadia organized an impromptu limbo contest, using a pool noodle as the bar. The twins, having abandoned their doorman duties, joined the fray, earning cheers when they nailed a backflip into the pool. Annie moved through the crowd, her laughter bright, her heart full. She danced with Summer, hugged Nadia, and even let Abby pull her into the pool, shrieking as the cool water hit her skin.

He was convinced he would die that night. His feet got tangled in his net. The strong waves made it impossible for Carl to free himself, and he drifted, battered by the waves, losing control. In his resignation, Carl saw something glowing swimming toward him. It weaved gracefully under the water, with a blueish glow, looking beautiful. When it got closer, the creature's hand reached for Carl, but it wasn't like a human hand. Between its fingers were delicate webs, and its nails were long, like claws that seemed capable of tearing through anything. It cut the net, rope entangled around his leg.

Austin’s POV She turns in a circle like she’s a planet doing one cyclic turn around the sun, then I see her swim over to my side of the dock. "Come on in. See if you can beat me." "You've already lost, you know?" "I can't lose a war I never fought." "Fine," I grab my water resistant Frogman watch from my backpack and jump in. We'll do cyclic turns and whoever stops first loses. Time is not on anybody's side as it'll be a countdown. Let's see how you hold out."
