JD runs around with a group of boys playing tag, while his sister Cleo plays with another little girl in the sandbox. When we’d first gotten to Paris a week ago, the kids had been curious but shy about the other kids, the language barrier making it hard for them to communicate. We’d tried our best to teach them some phrases before we’d flown over, but it was hard to get a six and five year old to focus on what they call ‘funny talk.’ But after a week of watching French cartoons, they’d started picking it up like a sponge and by the time we leave, I think they’ll know more than we will.

I only hoped that he would back up my statement. "Oh, really?" Dominique raised his brows. "Parles-tu français, Charlotte?" I smirked. I guess that he was determined to find a flaw in me, but unluckily for him, I spoke French quite well. "Je pense que je parle mieux le français que toi." Alexia's eyes widened. "What does it mean?"

He slowly closed the magazine, which he was absolutely not reading, and put it back on the table before turning toward me to attack my heart with his smoldering stare. “Les gens heureux lisent et boivent du café," he whispered in French and I swear that my heart stopped beating for at least five good seconds. “It literally means that happy people read and drink coffee. If you’re here I’m sure you could use a little happiness in your life, am I wrong?”

(“You did not call me early this morning, Monsieur Bennet, to ask about the bakery. Are you kicking me out?”) Owen laughed, “I will never kick you out. You’re my best tenant, but I have a proposition for you.” (“Oui je t’ecoute, dis m’en plus.”) “Yes, tell me, I am interested.”

“Eh bien, c'est une bonne chose que je le fasse.” We all turned to see Jordyn hovering in the doorway. “What?” I asked. “Eh bien, c'est une bonne chose que je le fasse,” he repeated with a grin. “I was eavesdropping. Sounds like you’re going to Paris? You said you don’t know French. Eh bien, c'est une bonne chose que je le fasse. It means, ‘well, it’s a good thing I do.’”

It was not an easy language to learn. Laurence was skeptical. "I speak French. If you want to learn, I can teach you.” Zoey lowered her gaze before replying, "I have no interest now." French was a lot harder compared to English. The words Laurence had used were common ones she had picked up from sitting in on the French lessons. The lecturer taught the students in their first lesson—"Je t'aime." The sentence was neither complex nor challenging to learn. Zoey had her hands full in college, occupied with classes and her part-time job. Despite her packed schedule, she would make her way to the foreign language school to attend a class when she had time to spare.

Robert frowned slightly, glanced at the half-translated manuscript in the French book's hand, and only slightly He nodded and said nothing. Laura knew that Robert was a shrewd person. His interest was inexplicable. Laura suspected that he had just seen the process of her giving the book to Cara, turned it over in front of Robert, and said: "Cara is a top student at Yen Bac Women's University, and is proficient in French and English." After speaking, he returned the book to Cara, and pretended to sigh: "Just now Cara returned I took a look, the French looks similar to English, but it's completely different." When Laura said, Cara looked up at her, smiled reluctantly, and looked away again.

she demanded. I stared at her, lips parted, frozen by both the suddenness of her arrival and the fact that I didn’t understand a single word she’d said. My heart pounded harder. I didn’t know how to tell her why I was there or how to explain who I was.
