"How do we bring them back?" Asher's form flickers violently, and for a moment, I see through him – glimpses of other times, other places. When he solidifies, his expression is grim. "I don't know if we can. The power required... it would destroy me. And possibly tear apart the very fabric of our world." A roar of frustration tears from my throat. I slam my fist into the nearest wall, relishing the sharp pain that blooms across my knuckles. It's a welcome distraction from the ache in my chest, the constant, gnawing absence of Lyra.

I was covered in ash. On every inch of my skin, there was ash. I couldn't see it because of the obvious…but I did feel it move, these particles..they move at random like they had control of their own, which actually, they did. The feeling wasn't bad because I was familiar with the source of it this time; I knew who it belonged to, and I knew its purpose. It brought me relief I was relieved that a stronger power could liberate me from this unknown force. But then again, I wasn't sure if actually, Emmett could pull me out of this stronghold.

Just then, a small head peeked through the suffocating smoke. “Madam, do you need any help?” someone asked timidly. I forced my eyes open and saw a young boy who was about the same age as my son. He was covered in ash and dirt, but his eyes shone brightly through the smoke. He was so small in size, yet he managed to muster the strength to help me up. Then, together, we slowly made our way outside. The path to the outside was incredibly challenging, and I felt like giving up several times.

Susanna had thoughtfully added audio for full effect. "I've been back for six months. With just a flick of my finger, he's fallen into the palm of my hand. He prepared a blue fireworks show for me tonight. Since I don't like blue, let me give it to you for your anniversary celebration so that it won't go to waste." The crowd erupted in shock. Sophie's face turned pale as panic surged through her. "That bitch Luna! How dare she expose our chat records?"

That’s why I summoned you here.” I raised my head and saw her flicking her hand again, her soft voice echoing in my head as the sudden blinding white light made me feel lightheaded. “Congratulations on your rebirth, Ashley. I hope you will use your wolf’s powers to serve my creations...”

However, now that my cultivation was gone and I had become useless, they had all grown bold enough to provoke me openly. “Today is Wendy’s succession ceremony. What are you doing here? Get out of here already! Don’t show yourself in front of Wendy.” The others chimed in, belittling me until I was worth nothing. To me, they were already no different from the dead. My pupils, corroded by demonic energy, turned a vivid crimson. The suppressed demonic energy within me exploded outward in an instant, a terrifying force shooting straight into the sky. Blood dyed the entire mountain red before everyone around me could realize what had happened.

I snapped, pushing past her to open the window wider. “Asphyxia. That's the medical term that covers the entire…concept of suffocation. Just so you know, you know. But it's not like I was trying to kill you, or me. We're too young, and I'm incapable of murder, you know that. I've only ever killed geckos since I was born…” She rambled, trailing off when she saw my death stare. I admit, I was more pissed at the fact that her charred whatever woke me up from my dream. I wished I heard everything my father had to say, but unfortunately, I got woken up abruptly.

Because this was no longer about Meher or Zara specifically. It was about structure itself. About the way meaning was no longer organizing itself around reference points. It was dissolving into generality. The forest outside the window remained still, but it no longer felt like witness. Only background. Aisha realized then that what she had been calling improvement was not addition or recovery. It was reduction of internal intensity until nothing resisted disappearance. And the most unsettling part was that Arman did not appear to be suffering within it. He was simply becoming less attached to the act of holding anything at all.
