I could feel her staring at me, her gaze heavy with questions, but I didn't look up. I didn't acknowledge her presence beyond the slight shift in my posture to ensure we didn't touch. When we arrived at the dock, the Siren’s Rest dominated the horizon. It was a massive white beast of a ship. Shawn let out a low whistle as he stepped out of the second car. "Okay," Shawn said, grinning. "This is a floating billionaire ego if I've ever seen one." I ignored him, walking past Delia without a word, my pace brisk as I boarded the gangway. The captain bowed his head.

Nearby, a torn shirt fluttered in the wind. It was stained with blood. Isabella’s breath hitched behind me. “That’s Kelly’s,” she whispered, stepping closer. “I recognize the stitching — I helped her sew that damn sleeve back on.” She touched the fabric with trembling fingers, but I could see it — she wasn’t going to break. The ship of the king of the Glaciar Coast was a gigantic vessel with a kind of lofty wretchedness to it. In fact, Katherine thought that the silver ornaments on the dark wood looked like bones, and if the sail had been a bit more tattered, the "Charon" would've been the perfect ghost ship. I pull her into the packhouse kitchen and give her a glass of water before launching into my interrogation. "What the hell? You're second chance mates?" I ask and she nods, still looking a little shell shocked. "Your first mate must have been killed or something." I muse but Katie shakes her head, making me look at her curiously. "What do you mean, Katie?" I ask her and she takes a deep breath before sighing. "I found my mate. When I left the pack right after I turned nineteen. I found him in another pack." She says and I wait for her to go on, when she doesn't I prompt her.
