There's still long hours till morning. Checking the book in his hand, he discovered it to be a novel. 'The Red and the Black' by Stendhal. After checking the description of the book, he believed it wouldn't be bad to give it a try although he is not fond of reading novels. Leo prefer reading normal books, it doesn't matter which type it is as long as there are not romance books. Most of the romance books he read in the past are rather cliche, untrue and misleading because such love in books doesn't exist in this modern day society.

This is going to be nice, I just know it. I spend hours cooking, snacking, reading, and it feels like a dream. My fae romance novel takes me to a land that doesn’t resemble my life and I’m so happy to lose myself in it. I’m reading along happily when I come across a word that strikes me dead. Mates. Great. Just what I was trying to forget about. I put it down and pull out the other book I brought, a historical fiction novel. No mates here, no way. Dinnertime creeps around and I spend a while making a nice risotto with a side salad and garlic bread. It’s so good it borders on s*x.

he answered, and this just made me even more curious to ask him more questions. “Even though you can order it, but then it would take days for it to get here and you need it right now, so you had to come here,” I answered, giving him an explanation, and he nodded in agreement, immediately locking in. “What’s the name of this book?” I asked, and he swallowed. “Just an old classic historical romance book; Rebellious Love by Maura Seger,” he answered, and I slowly nodded. “Okay then,” I said as I took slow steps away from him.

Even so, the whole process feels like a battle, and I am already exhausted by the time I have the books in my hands. I still read romantic novels. There is something comforting about them, even if some of the stories hit a little too close to home. Some of the plots are eerily similar to my own life, while others are pure escapism—beautiful, heartwarming tales from start to finish. Sure, the characters face hardships and tribulations, but what always stands out to me is the love and trust between the couples. It is the kind of love that feels unshakable, the kind I used to dream about. Now, I am not so sure if that kind of love exists for me anymore.

I forced my brain to assimilate the words until I couldn't take it any longer. I loved reading, in fact I had huge collections of crime and mystery novels because they were my favorite genre, but romance and historical . . . anything? Count me out. There was just something about ‘soulmates’ and romance that just grossed me out and the fact that this book had both just made me hate it. I stretched and yawned as I reached for my bed. I fell on my bed, face down. I didn't bother with my purple and white duvet as I let myself fall into slumber, Kenneth's smiling face the last thing I thought of.

It was my first time visiting a library, but I was extremely bored, and in the past, reading had cured my boredom. When I was younger, around the age of fifteen, I was housed with a couple who loved reading. They had a room in their home that was solely dedicated to their books. Three out of the four walls were lined corner-to-corner with built-in bookshelves, and one of the walls was solely for my foster mother. On her shelves was where I found my favorite genre, historical romance. The fourth wall was a reading nook, and I found myself sitting on the nook, my legs tucked underneath me, encaptured by novels written by Johanna Lindsey, Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, and Julia Garwood, just to na
