She wanted the truth. “I wouldn’t say we were best friends, friends at one point, prior to me becoming a vampire. There was never a love triangle, although that would have been less aggressive if it had. I did brutally murder him, he deserved everything I did to him.” I felt anger at the memory of his actions. “Why?”

He held up the book so I could see how much of it he had read. “You’re reading my vampire romance?” Obviously, I knew this already, but I still couldn’t believe he actually had it in his hands. I was more than a little embarrassed. “Well, yeah,” Brandon said, pulling it away from me. “Fangs of Love by Amber Rose. It’s really quite interesting. I’m doing research.” He said it in an overly romanticized voice and I could feel my face turning red. “Just give it here,” I whispered, reaching for it again. He held it just out of my reach.

I was looking forward to seeing him tonight…and having him make good on his promise to take his time. Maybe a little distance is a good thing. “Yeah. I got the feeling he’s out of state or something.” “Huh. Interesting.” She meets my eyes, smiling. “So, are you still gonna deny that you’re hooking up with a vampire?” In a deliberate move, she sweeps her hair back, showing off fang marks in her neck. Right. She’s dating a vampire. “If there was something to deny, I might. But there’s nothing.” I set the book down on the coffee table. “Do you want anything to drink? Coffee? Tea?”

“He’s clearly got you on drugs or something.” “That’s ridiculous. I’m completely sober.” “Are you, Camille? I should give you a test or something.” He checked out the other books. More vampire romance? Where were the werewolves? He saw none. “Wrong,” Dire grumbled. Don’t worry. We’ll get her proper books. Maddox browsed more of the vampire books and realized that they all had the same author. Grace Moon. That was an interesting name.

Eva watched them from a distance, looking worried. "Then maybe you can lend it to me. I'll read it fast and give it back to you so you can put it on your shelf." He narrowed his eyes. "Do you like to read about monsters?" She nodded, "Yes. It seems like we have the same taste." Angelica wondered why he picked this particular book. She could hear him say the title 'the monster is me' in his dark husky voice. She would have believed him had he said so. Lord Rayven ignored her and went to pay for the book. The seller's eyes widened and his hands trembled slightly as he received his money. A sigh left his lips once Lord Rayven walked out of the shop.

While she was looking for answers to her questions, something caught her eye. "A black cape? Long-sleeved white shirt? And a red bow?” Cyrille's eyes begin to widen. "This is how a vampire dresses in classic Dracula films!" she exclaimed. “Oh my—” She couldn't finish her words and immediately covered her mouth to keep from shouting. She was overjoyed with the mixed emotions she was experiencing at the time, and she couldn't believe that after days of fruitless hunting, she'd have the good fortune to meet a vampire.

Something she could only imagine existed in books and movies. A pair of red eyes and two long fangs that stuck out of the mouth as though they were always meant to be there. Except there was no blood dripping from his mouth as always described in books. Yet, she was still scared senseless at the sight of a living, vampire right in front of her eyes. He moved closer to her again but this time, she was prepared and understood what he was. She lunged on her feet in fright and prepared to flee. But she had barely moved two steps when that figure appeared in front of her again.

She felt the blood rush to her cheek, and suddenly the room became very warm. She decided to let it go. She had no hunger pangs now, and she could cross that path when she came to it. She hoped he would be by her side then. Besides, deep down, she didn’t really care that much about feeding, or vampires, or swords, or any of it. What she really wanted to know was about him. Or, really, how he felt about her. There were so many questions she wanted to ask him. Why did you risk it all for me? Was it just to find the sword? Or was it something else? Once you find your sword, will you still stay with me? Even though romance with a human is forbidden, would you ever cross the line for me?
