The voice asked It became quite still and sank right into my mind. I nodded my head in admiration, unable to say a word in response. "You have to remain strong and firm, if not for anything but for him. You have to prove to the entire world that you are worthy of being called his mother and that you would treat him the way he needs to be treated." The word sank right into me and made so much sense to me. I smiled and then stole another look at him. He was worth everything and I was going to do everything for him.

He stepped closer, his hands cradling my face as he pressed his forehead against mine. “I don’t deserve you,” he said quietly, his voice laced with emotion. “But I’ll spend the rest of my life proving that I’m worthy of you.” Tears pricked at my eyes, and I pulled him into a hug, holding him tightly. “You’re more than worthy, Adrian. You’re everything.”

He flinched but didn’t deny it. “You deserve all of it” he said instead, his voice rough with emotion I couldn’t quite name. “The career, the family, the mate who chooses you. You deserve someone who’s proud to stand beside you, who shouts from the rooftops that you’re his. You deserve everything you want and more.” My heart cracked wide open in my chest. “But you don’t think you’re that someone” I gave a bitter smile. He dropped his hands stepping back.

He deserves to be happy. “Thank you for everything, but..”

“Why did you even bring me here if all you feel is disappointment? Why did you bother?” He inhaled slowly. “I brought you here because Adrian risked his life for me.” He paused, then added, “That doesn’t mean you automatically belong here.” I looked at him, stunned. “I need to make sure you’re worthy,” he continued. “I need to make sure you reach your full potential.” Those words cut through me. Worthy? Something in his voice made me feel like he was searching for something in me. Like he saw a version of me I hadn’t discovered yet.

He was still smiling, “You did great. You deserved that.” “Really?” He nodded and fixed the loose strands of hair that were blocking my face. “You deserve everything in this world, Kath,” he said. “So never let someone determine your worth.”

I was always worth nothing.” I bit my bottom lip as I knew this part of him was hard for him to let go of. “But you, with that mark that proudly glowed on your neck, are the living proof that I was worthy of something, especially because the gods let me have you.
