The Upper Realm did not have a night sky. For three million years, it had been bathed in the eternal, flawless glow of the Supreme Sovereign’s divine aura. But today, the sky bled black. The Ascension Gate tore through the fabric of the Celestial dimension, a massive, swirling vortex of dark void-energy and golden Alpha fire. It materialized directly above the Heavenly Plaza—a sprawling expanse of polished white jade where three million immortal soldiers of the Heavenly Host stood in perfectly terrified formation.

As the echoes faded, the silver veins in the earth began to pulse faster, spreading outward like wildfire toward the Gate. The wind screamed through the gorge as Kaelen crested the ridge. The world below no longer looked like the valley he’d sworn to protect. The ground pulsed with veins of light, rivers of silver snaking between shattered stones. The air shimmered like molten glass, bending and breaking the rain into prisms. And at the center of it all stood the Gate—a colossal arch of fractured crystal half-buried in the mountain. Its surface rippled like water, reflecting skies that didn’t belong to this world.

I hoped my sister had thought to order our teams to cover all of the airports close by. Holland was a waste of time, too. Only that black wall, and I didn’t have the time or energy to go climbing again. I switched my efforts back to Christian’s book.
