Carson snarled at Ripley. “I’m sorry, I knew Jamie would be safe. I have found my ma… my friend. She will be joining us. If that is okay with you, Jamie?” His friend? When he'd almost got into trouble for DUI, she'd been the one who took the blame for him. And now she seemed to be the only friend who had the decency to check up on him. She was the only one he could rely on at this moment. The only one he could turn to for help.
