“I’m really sorry about that. That must have been devastating for you.”
I shrug, not wanting to be submerged with the grief that comes when I talk about Luna’s illness and subsequent death. “Yeah, it was.”
“Luna, that’s such a beautiful name,” she remarks, after a brief pause. “Where was she from?”
“Malawi.”
“That doesn't surprise me. She was a real exotic beauty. Was she a model or something?”
“She was a doctor, actually. We met in Med School.”
“No way!” she exclaims, and I chuckle at the reminder of the mistake people commonly made when Luna was alive and the look of surprise on their faces when they found out the truth.
