I let out a cold laugh. Katie had, at the very least, mastered the skill of being duplicitous. I checked the date—ten days left until the apocalyptic heatwave from my memories arrived. I needed to get everything ready so I could sit under the air conditioner and enjoy the show. I quickly rented a detached villa in the same neighborhood. Our neighbourhood was out in the suburbs, so it wasn't very densely populated. Because it was marketed as a high-end retirement community, most of the residents here were wealthy elderly couples. That was also why our security was the best in the whole city.

Aria's Pov The heat had been building for days. It started small but grew until my whole body felt like it was burning from the inside. I could not sit still. I could not eat much. I could not sleep right. Every time Viktor came near me, my pussy got wet fast, and my legs shook. I hated how bad I wanted him, I hated how my body needed him, but the heat did not care about hate. "O-Of course. We're friends." Satisfied with my response, Bethany finally let go of my arm and followed me inside. I opened the door, but the office was pitch-black. "Dad, these are the friends I mentioned, the ones coming to work here for the summer," I said cautiously. Before I could introduce them, they pushed past me and crowded into the room. "Hello, Mr. Parker. We're here for the summer jobs. May I know what the pay is like? Is ten thousand dollars a month okay? Oh, and I'm not really into factory work. Can I get an office job instead?"

Something about that cool morning wind was so soothing and unnerving that she lost track of how many hours she spent doing absolutely nothing. Then, she read a novel she had bought from a subtlety that sold books in the resort. Halfway through the book, she was fuming at the writer for describing her exact situation with a certain self-centered, condescending, and arrogant dark hazel-eyed man. But part of her discipline was that whenever she picked up a book to read, she saw it to the very end, be it boring or annoying. And this one was well past annoying. Realistically annoying. "And they called it a fantasy," she sneered.

I asked back at her. Mr Walton, "How can you tell that we didn't care about her if you weren't there? We take Hailey and Charlie to see their grandmother on every summer break. Unlike Charlie, hailey got attached to granny a lot. We couldn't take the children to see their grandmother, because there was stormy rain. Hailey went out in the rain and got hypothermia because of it. And she got hospitalised because of that. And when we took her to see her grandmother, she refused to come with us and cried a lot. We were afraid that she'd get sick again and left her with her grandmother. Whenever we get to have free time, we go see her which makes us distanced from Charlie. Charlie started ignoring

Sharon The heat was insufferable. It had come out of nowhere, blasting through the city and melting everything and everyone in its path. It had even reached all the way out to the suburbs, stifling my entire life. As if it wasn’t bad enough with the lock down, now we had to suffer through unbearable heat on top of it. The heat is heavy like a wool blanket and leaches the water from my body. Who in their right mind would live in this godforsaken wasteland without someone holding a gun to their head?
