Quietly, I pack a few things and leave a note for Liam on his nightstand: “Hello, my love. Sorry to leave in such a hurry. I promise to be back soon. Love, Mom.” On second thoughts, I crumble up the note I’ve written to him and start drawing a charcoal outline of a family of bears - mama, papa and baby bear. It was a black canvas with a single, bold image: a black angry bear with its face filled with rage and its teeth exposed ready to devour anything on its part, it’s eyes filled with hate and bitterness. Betty's heart skipped a beat as she felt a shiver run down her spine. The bear looked eerily familiar, reminiscent of a painting in her family house.

He docked as it reached him with its long and bloody claws. Brayden used the opportunity that he was cradled in the bear’s chest to strike with his claws. He used his right front claws to aim at the bear’s heart. He missed, the bear moved to the right. In a swift motion, the bear scooped him up and tossed him to the grassy area of the forest mixed by non-ornamental plants.

I laughed at his annoyed look. We drive for several hours, thankfully the weather is overcast, so we have no reason to fear the sun exposure. We arrive at the cabin, after parking the car, we take off running into the northern woods, right away I smell the air and catch the scent of something lurking in the woods. I sniffed the air along with him. I caught a mildly tolerable scent. We take a deep inhale, right then I catch sight of a black bear. It senses our presence, and hackles its back in attack mode, sensing another predator.

Along with his massive size they were the only sign that he was a shifter and not a regular Kodiak brown bear. Standing there, the man took a moment to adjust to his new senses, and then with a powerful leap, he bounded forward, his large paws carrying him through the forest in quick strides. The world looked different through bear eyes. He could see the intricate patterns of the leaves, the scent trails of other animals, and hear the rustling of creatures moving through the underbrush. The forest was his kingdom, and he knew every inch of it. As he ran, he made sure to brush against several trees and boulders, breaking a few branches and leaving his scent on trees and rocks to mark the area

I didn't even bother to get any lunch just so I could avoid his gaze on me once more. I greeted Mrs. Montana as usual before making my way to the spot in the back. I sat down against the wall and pulled out my notebook where I was drawing the large picture of the black wolf. I wasn't exactly talented when it came to art, but I always found it amusing and a great past time whenever I had nothing to do over the weekend or during the summer. I had to admit, I had gotten better over the years, but I knew I still had a lot of practice ahead of me.

A hand clamped around my mouth as another wrapped around my torso pulling me behind a tree. "Mmph..." "Shh." Someone's breathing hit my ear, and I forcefully turned my head to come face to face with a pair of sea-green eyes motioning to the other direction. Frowning I directed my gaze there, and my eyes widened as a huge black bear was coming right towards us while sniffing the air.

Her thoughts ease a little at how attentive he is to her. They pick up their lunches and set out. The day is sunny but as they take the trail into the mountains they are shaded by the tall trees, where it is a little cooler. They see a mother black bear with her cub through a small clearing. The mother bear is eating some wild berries while her baby cub plays beside her. Grant takes a picture and decides it would be a great idea to take pictures along their walk and make Amber an album so she can remember their first trip away. He hopes it will become one of many.

The roaring sound of the bear halted our conversation as I tried to think about what to do. “Distract it while I strip,” I told her as I shuffled out of my shoes. Her eyes grew wide. “How do I distract a black bear?” She asked, her mouth agape. “I don’t know, think of something,” I told her just as the bear lunged again. “Throw rocks at it!” It seemed the bear was attacking me personally, completely dismissing Tabby. Her distraction could prove to be useful.
