Rescheduled engagement. "No," I whispered, my voice shaking. "No, Emma. Don't be that girl. Don't believe the campus radio." I pulled my phone out with trembling fingers. My thumb went straight to Snapchat, then I*******m. I scrolled through the stories, my eyes darting across every circle. Nothing. No grainy photos of Sophia in a clinic. No official 'Save the Date' from the Carter or Miller accounts. It was just the usual—people posting their lattes, someone complaining about the Monday morning traffic, and a few gym selfies.

People were already creating stories that weren’t even true, and somehow everyone was eating it up. Then an idea suddenly formed inside my head. If everybody wanted a story so badly, I would simply give them a different one. I immediately opened my contacts and created a group chat with a few old school friends. We weren’t exactly close anymore, but they loved gossip and that was all I needed right now. “Ladies, I need a favor,” I typed. “A very important one.” One of them replied almost immediately. “Girl, what are you planning now?” A smile slowly spread across my face while I typed my response. If I was going to do this, I had to do it properly.

So I said whatever came to my mind impromptu. “Hobo de! You just keep thinking about that one day, and don’t do anything about it,” he said, gulping a little water from the bottle he’d brought. “No, this time I’m doing. Tonight, I’m going to start writing a love story,” I said. I didn’t want to tell anyone before the story was complete. Lest, someone stole my idea and wrote it down themselves! But Biswa, he was my soulmate. I couldn’t hold it off from him.

“Why? Is that some big secret?” Not really,” Cupid replied. I could tell she was smiling, even though I couldn’t see her face. She was the sort of woman that seemed like she loved her job. “It’s evident that you’ve recently stumbled upon this information. We suspect it came from your interaction with your mother-in-law.” Admitting my curiosity, I pressed on, “Is that how Snuggle works? Can someone who’s already on the app invite another person?” Cupid nodded in confirmation. “Yes, that’s correct. Someone who is already a member of the app can extend an invitation to another person.”

A shiver runs down my spine, but I shake it off, hitting record. We upload snippets to my private Snap story—the one where only my closest friends, including my boyfriend Tyler, can see. It’s my little corner of chaos: cute selfies mixed with the occasional thirst trap. Tyler loves it; he’s always the first to view and respond with fire emojis or something dirtier. Luca knows about the story too—he’s on it, though I keep the racier stuff timed just right so he might miss it. Or maybe he doesn’t. Whatever.
