She barely laughed at his jokes. “What’s funny?”

“You’re even less nice when you want something. You should probably work on that. The dark humor was so perfectly Jaxx that I couldn't help but laugh. I burst out laughing, the sound bright against the lingering tension in the room. Instead of instantly replying to me, Harvey’s expression quickly changed, and he began laughing as if he had heard something quite crazy. I made a weird face at his unexpected reaction.
