Hey Nate, Did you do a weird thing? Let's see. You read comments on an online support group, saw one that caught your interest, couldn't suppress the urge to talk to the girl that wrote said comment, sent her the oddest email she's ever read, and then decided to forget that he ever sent the email in the first place. Is that weird? I'll leave you to answer that for yourself. And yes, I do have a sense of humor. Usually the dark kind, but it's still humor nonetheless, isn't it? But nowadays, very few things make me laugh. So,I don't know what to make of it. Does that still count as having a good sense of humor?

His humour was sharp, and witty, but still sensitive— in other words, the best kind. At the core of Tyler’s personality was his sense of humour. He possessed an innate ability to put me at ease, and this fascinated me because I couldn't tell how he was doing it. His wit was like a bolt of lightning, an electric current that charged the air and cast everything in a new light. His laugh wasn't very masculine— hence why I saw myself looking at his face wondering if the sound I was hearing emanated from his mouth. I loved how his eyes lit when he laughed— his laugh echoing like a sonorous bell that chimed with merriment and conviviality.

His humor had real life in it, the kind built on trending memes and self-deprecation. He would look at a pan full of vegetables that were falling apart and tell them, with a completely straight face, "You need to calm down." When I accidentally burned a batch of cookies, he burst out laughing and said, "Don't worry, charcoal is a natural energy booster." He was more vivid, more alive, and more human than any set of parameters I could have ever programmed. One evening, he was standing at the counter in an apron, chopping vegetables, and the last of the sunset was falling across him. I looked at his back and felt my heart jolt.

That was his first time, and that jerk treated him like garbage. “That’s… horrible. I’m sorry,” I blurt. He waves it off, calm but quick. “No, no. Funny. That’s how we survive laugh at our trauma. Heal with humor.” “But, Carter,” I insist, voice low, serious. “I don’t want to laugh about someone treating you like that.” The room hushes. The silence presses against my ears, thick and heavy.

"And you look like you could use better company." He was human. I clocked it immediately and felt something in my chest loosen because human meant no pack politics, no hierarchy. Just a person. We talked. He was funny in the way of someone who didn't know they were funny, the humor arriving sideways, landing before I'd decided to let it. He asked about hockey. I told him more than I intended to. He told me about his work and I found myself actually listening. I laughed twice. Real laughs. Then I felt it.

That person will turn into a beast, and he’ll only be able to watch, unable to do anything. Until one night, when Harbinger of Doom, the girl in his previous team, suddenly sent Andy a list of 60 hilarious jokes. Andy had been puzzled and nonchalant reading them at first, but as time went on, the jokes began to affect him, and he loosened up. Soon, Andy found himself laughing, and before he realized it, he calmed down and fell asleep. Surprisingly, it happened the next day and the day after. Before Andy realized it, he found himself expecting the jokes more and more. After all, they helped him calm down and forget his sorrow, even if it was for a brief moment.

I replied to her, and she scoffed playfully. “I feel they’re trying to be funny but it’s just coming out as forced and awkward.” She had her legs crossed and on top of the coffee table. Hamish chuckled. “Well, I think it’s a good movie. I kind of like it.” “That’s because you have a terrible sense of humor. I have my fingers crossed that that personal trainer you’re dating is going to knock your sense of humor back to life.” Bunny laughed lowly, and we joined her. Hamish chuckled and his face got red. “Whatever.” His voice was light.

It was good that we were on the same path, we never wanted any conversation that had to do with the both of us. “You are a good horse rider, I’m sure you’ll beat me in a race,” I replied. She frowned, noticing the sheer sarcasm in my statement. The frown broke into a light smile then a giggle. “You have a sharp sense of humor,” she said in the middle of her giggles. I raised my brows at her, is that her way of avenging a sarcastic comment? Everyone understands that I know nothing about humor. It is for the weak and drunks.
