Isabella POV I felt something soft press against my cheek, a little paw. Chuckling softly, I reached out and my fingers brushed fur. Opening my eyes, I found myself looking into the curious gaze of a puppy. A surprised squeal escaped me as I picked her up, laughing as I ruffled her light brown ears. She was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a gentle little thing with big, warm eyes that practically glowed with sweetness. Holding her close, I hugged her gently, the joy bubbling up as she wriggled in my arms.

I couldn't shake the feeling that there would be more encounter like this. ***** Orion's POV When I saw the girl in person, honestly, I was surprised. The stones on the Pagoda of Nations emitted beams of light like countless sharp swords, making Kanpei Ichiro hesitant to approach. These lights enveloped Kiran York tightly. The red light on Kiran's body, surrounded by white light, resembled a fiery sword or the tail fire of a rocket launching into the sky. The white light accentuated the scene, making it even more imposing.

Soul eaters, it was amazing how the idea of that didn't seem so ridiculous or alarming now. A shuffling behind caused me to turn around just as Julia walked in. She was holding a candle up high and didn't even bother trying to turn the lights on. I wondered what was wrong with the electricity. The second Rebecca's eyes met mine, she somehow mustered the strength to wrench herself from Nash's iron grip. "Joanna!" She hurtled toward me. However, just as she was about to reach me, a figure stepped in between us. In the blink of an eye, she was sent sprawling. Curled up on the ground, she whimpered in agony. I raised my head slightly, glancing at Elliott, and mentally gave him a high-five. Elliott looked down, catching my silent praise, and his lips quirked into a smug, lazy grin. "Don't mention it."

So she may as well do this alone. With her sword in its scabbard, and the shield she’d been wielding strapped to her back, Nya carefully opened the door that led to the hallway. She’d already oiled it a few days ago so that it opened without a sound. Checking both sides of the hallway, she saw nothing in the flickering torch light, nor did she hear the echoes of bootsteps from any of the adjoining hallways. Satisfied she was in the clear for now, Nya stepped out into the hallway and gently closed the door behind her.

Her voice was back to normal and it was beautiful. “Now I'm here blinking in the starlight. Now I'm here suddenly I see. Standing here it's all so clear. I'm where I'm meant to be.” Yukina, whenever I look at you, my mind goes blank. “And at last I see the light. And it's like the fog has lifted. And at last I see the light. “Okay, what’s your name?” A blue light crackled in jumps and starts. Curves glimmered in the dark. Tentacles twisted together like vines growing out of the earth, towering over me. Legs and arms took shape. A head with horns curled like a shower of sparks caught in a cyclone. Eyes opened inches from my face, lidless and barking mad. And then a mouth ripped open, stretching the fabric of existence apart to reveal an endless expanse of stars. From it came a voice so heavy, each word slammed into my brain and slid down into my chest. “You can call me Yuqi.”

As we chatted, Thomas came over with a bowl of piping hot special mushroom soup and a few small dishes for me. In the blink of an eye, the butler and the other servants had vanished from sight. He watched me until I had finished everything, then he finally relaxed and leaned back on the sofa. Without any preamble, he asked me, "I've agreed to help you get your revenge on him."
