I had a splitting headache. I struggled to force my heavy eyelids open. My vision was blurred, and the ceiling was spinning slowly above me. The last clear memory I had was of my boyfriend of three years, Calvin Kennedy, kneeling on one knee in a room carpeted with rose petals. He was holding out a ring. I had drank the glass of red wine he handed me. My body soon felt unbearably heavy. I felt a scorching hand moving over my waist. The way he moved was hurried, harsh, and unrestrained.

My whole body shivered uncontrollably. Ian… How could he? Out there, with another woman? And so recklessly that it landed them in a hospital? The realization was like a blow to the gut. My breath hitched painfully, and I clung to the wall for support. Why did I have to find out like this—while carrying his child? Why did he have to betray me, especially today, of all days? Jane squealed. “And so what?, go away, let me sleep” I groaned and covered back my body with the blanket which was pulled away from me earlier. I shut my eyes in attempt to sleep back, only to be woken back up by my blanket being pulled away from me, exposing my naked legs to the cold air. “What the-” I’m interrupted by the sound of a water balloon being busted and splashed all over me. “Happy Birthday!” They all squealed. Oh that’s right. Today is Valentine’s day and also my fucking birthday. The day I hate most in the entire world.

Red was marring her remarkably white skin though, I watched in horror as her hand rose to press against her chest and she brought her fingers back to look at them. “Valen.” The sweetest voice I had ever heard left her lips, whispering my name as she tried to focus on me. “Valentine”

My heart sank at that thought, but I brushed it aside, sniffing back the tears that were etched in the corner of my eyes. I quickly straightened my shoulders and prepared to leave when the corner of my eye caught something intriguing. It was the sexy frame of a woman a few feet away, holding a boy's hand. The aura she exuded instantly ignited strange, overwhelming feelings inside of me. Then she slightly turned, giving me a clue as to who she was. My heart skipped a beat as the realization dawned on me like a sack of ice cubes. It was Valentina, and she was with a boy!

She hugs him to her body, whispering in his ear, "Giving mommy your virginity baby . . . that has to be the best Valentine's gift ever. I love you so much." The old grandfather clock downstairs starts to chime. Its midnight and Saint Valentine's Day may be over, but their new life is just beginning.

He approached her and held a strand of her hair from her straight blonde hair. His face approaching closer to her face, her expression softened.

"Nate! Make it stop! Valentine doesn't have to know!" Tears now streamed down my face, further blinding my vision. I trained my eyes on Nate, wondering if he would respond to my cries. Through my blurred vision, I saw him shaking his head back and forth, rubbing his neck with his hands. He then stood up suddenly, and stalked over to me. A slight hope filled me when Nate came to a stop in front of where I was standing.

Ethan followed suit and sat next to me. "You know.. I love Valentine's Day." I said casually. "Really?" He replied in surprise. "Yep! Especially today. Because today it seems like it's going to be a lot easier to live through than ever before." I said with a chuckle. Ethan laughed at my remark and intertwined our fingers, rubbing circles on my palm with his thumb. "How did you know that?" He asked curiously. "It's just a feeling, really." I replied with a shrug.
