Maybe I let Kael kill tons… I also need to gather enough points to raise my level. “This place is almost empty. Maybe someone came here already… the shelves got nothing useful at all” “Enemies” He mumbled which makes me be allarmed. Did he just say enemies? It means that it is more than one. Maybe I can take this chance to level up. I completely forgot about it while we have much enemies to kill. Hah… how funny “Let me handle this” “But—” “It will be fine. I am strong too, you know” It is not that I am bragging but I am not a frail mosquito to be worried off. I can handle this thing. Not a problem at al—l

“She’s not weak. She’s survived worse than what we’ve thrown at her so far.” A smile crept into the darkness. “I’m not underestimating her. I’m studying her.” He leaned forward slightly, his voice lowering. “And while she has people who love her, she has just as many who resent her. Old grudges. Quiet hatred. People waiting for the right excuse.” The first man exhaled slowly. “Enemies.” “Yes,” the second said, satisfaction bleeding into the word. “And enemies are far more useful than loyal friends. Friends protect. Enemies destroy.”

I hear purrs and growls agreeing to what I said. “And by taking what is ours we need to eliminate the enemy. Most of you my get think our only enemies are the fated mate of a girl and her child but no. From today, Kael is an enemy too” There is an uncomfortable silence and I understand because Kael was mightily feared. “So we eliminate Kael right?” They chorus a yes. Some half-heartedly. A throne with enemies inside bleeds faster.”

He left the room without looking back, and Sapphire ran after him with admiration in her eyes. I blinked hard to push the memory away. Jonah stood beside my luggage and stared at me with a cold expression. I did not know when it started, but as time passed, he stopped caring about my feelings. Every conversation became a battle he wanted to win. The Werewolf who once postponed meetings to stay with me and promised never to make me cry no longer existed. My phone lit up. On the glass coffee table lay a single, well-thumbed copy of “The Strategist’s Dilemma: Game Theory in Modern Conflict.” “He’s talking to us,” Mimi said, her voice cold. “He’s not a mercenary doing a job. He’s a player. He’s studied us, and now he’s announcing his pedigree. This is a game to him.” The psychological contours of their enemy sharpened, becoming more terrifying.

His fingers are cold, but they tighten around mine. "Together," I say. And we walk out of the hidden library, leaving the Rilke book open on the chair, the word Keep Going fresh on the page. The door clicks shut behind us. The Penobscot Building blinks its red beat. The Vernor's sign flashes gold. And somewhere in the city, the real enemy is waiting, not knowing we're coming. Not knowing the apex predator has finally found someone worth fighting for, and someone worth fighting with.

Her breath seized with anticipation. As she had predicted her blow was landing on her, preparing herself mentally, but surprisingly nothing happened. Then after waiting for some moment and didn't feel anything, she slowly opened her eyes and saw another figure in front of her, holding Clara's hand in a rather aggressive manner.
