The Mate They Threw Away

“You should have thought of that before you decided to hunt that girl,” I said quietly.
I moved faster than he could track, and my hand closed around his throat. I lifted him off the ground with one arm, something that should have been impossible for someone my size, and looked into his terrified eyes.
“This is what powerless feels like,” I whispered. “Remember it in whatever comes next.”
I squeezed, and felt his windpipe collapse under my fingers. His struggles weakened, then stopped altogether. I dropped his body to join the others.
