“But you don’t know for sure,” I pressed. “You can’t be certain.”
Rhodes studied me for a long moment, her gaze intense. Finally, she sighed again, but this time there was a note of resignation in her voice.
“All right,” she said. “I’ll tell you what I remember. But I’m telling you now, you’re not going to like it.”
I nodded, bracing myself for whatever she was about to say. Rhodes motioned for me to follow her, and she led me to a small, dimly lit office. She closed the door behind us and gestured for me to sit.
