Arash asked Zaya in return. "Do you know about the author of this novel?" Zaya asked again. "Oh ...!" Arash clapped his hands and walked back towards the table where Zaya was sitting, smiling proudly at her. "That's a romance novelist from Indonesia, as far as I remember ... each of her novels always uses a different flower photo, right?" Arash asked again.

She even winked. “Yaoi?” Jane asked, looking rather blank. “Literature?” Akira nodded. “Yes, literature. Gay stuff.” Jane blushed bright red immediately. “Oh.” Akira continued. “It’s very popular in Japan, especially the manga, light novels, and CD drama. I must admit I’m a fujoshi. I binge read the manga and light novels. Very entertaining. And of course, who wouldn’t want to listen to some hot, sexy CD drama, especially when two guys are in the midst of some hot bedroom scenes, with all that moaning, groaning, and heavy breathing?”

Even so, the whole process feels like a battle, and I am already exhausted by the time I have the books in my hands. I still read romantic novels. There is something comforting about them, even if some of the stories hit a little too close to home. Some of the plots are eerily similar to my own life, while others are pure escapism—beautiful, heartwarming tales from start to finish. Sure, the characters face hardships and tribulations, but what always stands out to me is the love and trust between the couples. It is the kind of love that feels unshakable, the kind I used to dream about. Now, I am not so sure if that kind of love exists for me anymore.
