The SUV jerked.
Jake braced against the wheel. “Hold on!”
I pressed my palm to the window for balance and locked eyes with the figure.
“No,” I whispered. “No, no, no—”
Jake grabbed me, pulling me into his chest as the SUV slid faster, tires losing all grip, snow roaring beneath us like a river. I squeezed my eyes shut, the past and present crashing together in a violent blur—Metal groaning and glass cracking.
Jake exhaled, shaking, forehead pressed to mine. “Lily… I’ve got you. I’m not losing you.”
