"Mr. Webb—" Yosef had passed out. The room turned into a frenzy as he was rushed to the hospital. The doctor said he had worked himself too hard, and his emotions made his blood pressure go wild. The small tumor in his lungs had started to spread.

All of a sudden, he collapsed onto the ground and laid there emotionlessly. Ysabelle was frightened and burst into tears. She immediately called Anne who came over and took Joshua away. “Doctor, how is my son?” Anne sighed anxiously. “He hasn't eaten or doing anything for the past three days, in addition he was soaked in the rain and his previous head injury on his head was been infected. Hence, he fell I’ll. His condition is quite serious.” The doctor was shocked at Joshua's condition.

Serena’s phone buzzed just as she was leaving a meeting. The hospital's name flashed on the screen. The voice on the other end was clipped, urgent. Josh had fallen into a coma. The doctor had been reaching out to everyone on Josh's contact list, one by one—standard protocol in emergencies, but the kind that never felt routine.

The beat of the place was a dull, unvarying melody. The breaking point was the medical inspection. There was a doctor round every third day. Sabe's turn was tomorrow. Before the doctor, a harried but kindly-eyed fellow in an off-the-rack suit, arrived, Sabe was ready. He groaned of dizziness, of constricted chest. He hyperventilated furtively, and his skin underneath the eyes became white. He was the epitome of controlled, convincing misery. "Perhaps stress, perhaps a cardiac arrhythmia from the smoke inhalation," the doctor thought, checking Sabe's blood pressure. "We have to do an EKG in the infirmary. Can't do it here."

“Thinking about getting to you on time. Guess I failed at that.” Tears streamed down my face, and I shook my head. “You’re an idiot, you know that?” “Yeah,” he said softly. “But I’m your idiot.” I laughed, the sound breaking through the tension that had built up over the night. “You better be, because if you ever scare me like this again, I’ll kill you myself.” He chuckled weakly, squeezing my hand. “Noted.” *** By the time Doctor El came in to check on him, Josh had fallen back asleep. His color was better, and his breathing was steady. Doctor El assured me that he was on the mend, but it would take a few days for him to fully recover.

Why was he dragging his lips to say something when he was clearly meant to speak right away? Slowly—like someone forcing himself through a nightmare—Doctor Josh lifted his head. His eyes were red and glossy, guilt resting heavy in them. Jack and Bobby’s expressions tightened instantly, both of them staring at him like they were waiting for him to say the wrong thing. I understand that everything that was happening took them unawares because of how highly we all took Doctor Josh. So seeing him like this actually must have kept them in this state. “For… for switching the DNA test,” Doctor Josh finally said.

Josh seriously asked while reaching for Bienley's arm. "Get your hands off me!" Bienley smacked their hands away, annoyed at what they were doing. "You could be sick, Benny," Josh insisted, unfazed by his irritation. "Have you had your regular medical examination? Are you not positive for any sexually transmitted diseases?" Kit leaned closer to him and whispered. "Fuck you, two" his dark scowl made his two friends laugh rather than be scared. "This is the third day you have not taken someone out. We were concerned because that was unusual for you." Kit chuckled as he straightened himself in his chair.

“They’is ll know that we dismantled a supply chain before it ever ignited. Without a gun in fired. Without a warning. Just… a switch. A shift.” I reached into my jacket and pulled out the training evaluation list. “Cruz said sixteen passed without hesitation. Eight more need conditioning. One…” I paused. “One is sick with cardiovascular issues. He had a crisis during one of the drills, in Mandolos’ Zone. We're sending him out, this isn’t the place to tolerate sick folks. Bukky raised a brow. “Can’t we treat him, and still keep him, since he's passed other tests?” I nodded. “Nah, not here. Antonioni doesn't run a facility for sick people.”

Daisy handed him a glass of water. "Where do you hurt? Is it your leg?" Jesse paused and smiled bitterly. "Everywhere, especially that leg..." Daisy didn't understand. "How could this happen?
