I nodded, but secretly I was as excited as a little kid going to Disneyland. We got into the car and headed to the airport. Jensen sat with me and Dillion rode in the front with Jacob. We drove straight onto the tarmac to a private hanger. Jensen got out and held his hand out for me. I took it and he helped me out of the car. He lead me onto the jet and I was amazed. There were six huge white leather seats, a couch, and a TV. I couldn’t believe how big it looked on the inside. "At 3:30 in the morning. Right." She grabbed her backpack. She shoved the SSD into her bra, next to her heart. She grabbed her heavy soldering iron—it was heavy enough to be a weapon. She ran to the window. She was on the fourth floor. She threw the window open and looked down. The rain was torrential. There was a fire escape, but it was rusted, detached from the wall, and ended ten feet above the concrete alleyway. In the game, Jinx had the "Cat-Fall" perk. She could leap from rooftops and land silently. She had +50 Agility.

There was no hint of any emotion in his eyes, but anyone could tell he was just focused on no one but her. "Nik calls them the 'jump'— when my dream would change to another dream. It does feel like jumping for me. So far, the most jumps I had in one night are six. Usually, I'd just get three jumps, or two when I'm lucky. The more jumps I do, the sicker I feel in the morning. So, that time I had five jumps a night, I felt like dying in the morning."

I cursed, but the corners of my mouth had curved upward. "Mr. Burke, Mr. Langdon." 007's robotic voice rang out. "The power required to make the temporal jump has reached 100%. The flight path has been confirmed as well, and the coordinates locked in. The jump will initiate in 60 seconds. Please be on standby." I could hear the countdown going off in my head. "60, 59, 58…" Leaning against my chair, I closed my eyes. The absurdities I've experienced over the past few years raced through my mind.

I leap up, jumping above the people kneeling, and to the window I go. "Hey, stop! That's the girl! Get her!" The window is not too tall, allowing me to jump effortlessly into the soft green grass outside, feeling the night dew rub against my feet. The chilly night breeze causes me to shiver as goosebumps spread across my skin like wildfire.

Angry. "Listen up!" Jack yelled to his team. "Once we jump, we are on our own! No extraction until we reach the river! Watch your step, watch the shadows, and for god's sake, don't touch anything colorful!" "Green light!" the jump master shouted. "Go! Go! Go!" Marcus jumped first, plummeting like a stone, his minigun strapped to his chest. Haley followed, screaming, tethered to Jack. "Geronimo!" Ben yelled, waddling to the edge.

What I do know is that none of them have overtaken me. The first boulder looms ahead, roughly the size of Xander’s SUV. Fortunately, there are smaller ones leading up to it. So, instead of tackling it head-on, I decide to run up the smaller ones. I jump onto the lowest one, running and leaping across them like I’m in some intense parkour challenge. I’m loving it. I leap onto the larger boulder, barely needing to scramble over it. The scrape to my hands and knees doesn’t even register as I haul myself to the top.

Jump: Grabbing onto the glass window as it ejects and falls out, I look down at the quickly approaching desert. I spy an approaching sand dune, the tallest one around. Placing the window against the bottom of my shoes, I use my gift of enhanced jumps to jump off the window. The window shatters as I jump off the window and toward the tallest sand dune. Rocketing toward it, I flip over and use my gift once more to jump off the sand dune. I bounce off the sand dune before flipping over and landing on my feet. Now on my feet, I adjust my wrist-mounted crossbows. As I adjust them, I look up and see only my pod flying back to the hovertrain craft.
