Agacé, il s'est tourné vers le voisin et a lancé d'un ton excédé : « Si jamais vous la croisez, dites-lui que si elle ne se montre pas dans les trois jours, je ne verserai plus un centime pour les frais médicaux de son sale gamin. » Le voisin, voyant qu'il n'y avait rien à tirer de lui, a secoué la tête et s'est éloigné en murmurant : « Le pauvre gosse... il est mort de faim depuis longtemps, lui aussi... »

Trois jours avant les fiançailles, Lucien Thomas m'a appelée : « Reportons notre cérémonie de fiançailles d'un mois. Ce jour-là, ce sera le premier concert de Lily Moreau après son retour en France, je ne peux pas ne pas y aller. » « Ce n'est qu'un report de fiançailles, rien de grave. » C'était la troisième fois qu'il a repoussé notre cérémonie de fiançailles cette année.
