Kiara straightened the collar of her shirt once more in front of the mirror. She made sure she looked as neat as usual, even though she felt devoid of energy. Her face still looked tired and her eyes were still swollen and faintly red—a result of sleeping with restless thoughts. She felt truly drained, yet she forced herself to go back to work—she had already taken too many days off, from Roland’s death to the scandal involving Estelle. After ensuring she looked presentable, Kiara took a deep breath. She moved towards the door.

The jeans had tears in them, and she wore a pair of black ankle boots. The scarf was grey and knitted together with wool. Her hair was still silver-white, and she had a small denim bag on her arm. Kiara hugged a few women hello, and then walked towards the bar. She didn’t even make eye contact with me as she leaned over the counter and kissed Kedwyn hello.

She’s good at something I don’t, and I’m jealous of her. “I did all that. Please, give that back to me,” Kiara says between sniffing and twisting fingers.
