After a moment of contented quiet, Jill asked, "Think we'll ever watch a whole movie?" I giggled. "Never, with you."

I curled up on the plush green velvet armchair by the window, trying to read, but my eyes kept drifting to the empty doorway. Jillian was nowhere to be found. I told myself I didn’t care. That I didn’t need him to be here. But as the minutes dragged on and the sun began to sink, casting long golden shadows across the library floor, I couldn’t help the anxiety that twisted in my stomach. Then I heard it—the sound of heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. And laughter. I stood slowly. The laughter grew louder as it approached, and then the door to the library opened—and she walked in.

But her smile hid her vow that the last laugh was going to be on Dustin Reed. She would show him that she wasn’t the ignorant city girl he seemed so certain he’d hired, on his mother’s wishes. Putting her cup in the sink, Jill said, ‘I can be ready in half an hour, if you’re anxious to get back to the ranch early.’ He nodded. ‘You don’t need much time to get ready?’ ‘Oh, I think you’ll find that I’m a wash-and-wear kind of a girl,’ Jill said as she sailed out of the kitchen.

Jack said, his face scrunched up in a feigned annoyance. “Jill has something to say,” she said, looking at Jill, who immediately looked down to hide his flushed cheeks. “Alright, I’ll be the spokesperson,” Jade said, her lips twitching as she tried to stifle her grin. “Jill is getting married soon!!” Her voice rose in excitement, and the room erupted in joyful cheers.

And the attitude that Shane is throwing right now is just a product of the trauma that she got from those shitty pranks of Jill. “Come on, girl! You are so ridiculous! Of course not!” Jill laughed so hard like a kid. “So, what is it? Just tell us because honestly, Shane got a point. This is so unusual of you.” I squinted my eyes at her, “are you just pranking us?” Instead of a normal answer… or a more defensive one, Jill resorted with just throwing her head back while laughing like a kid. Her laugh was so loud, it is enough for me to know that she may in fact, pranking Shane and I.
