Eliana let out a small laugh, more forced than anything else.
Mary smiled unknowingly. “There, that’s better. A smile looks good on you.” To that, Eliana smiled honestly.
They moved on again, passing through a dim corridor that opened into a room lined with buckets, basins, and machines. “The laundry, you’ll spend time here whether you like it or not. Everyone of us does.”
She smiled and gestured to the piles of folded clothing in baskets. “You’ll find that soap and water can be rare luxuries. Got to guard them well.”
