Dreaming Walking Barefoot Novels & Stories

Most nights, anymore, I dreamt of wolves, of the woods, of Ben sometimes, of my friends in California, or some mixed up version of all of them. This dream was different. It seemed so real… vividly real. I was wearing the same oversized T-shirt and shorts I’d had on when I’d fallen asleep. I was in the woods, walking, and it was night. I had nothing on my feet. Despite the fact that I knew I had to be dreaming because I had already gone to bed, the leaves crunching beneath my feet felt real, as did the earth.

We were running out of time. After the dream walk, I had managed to dress her before she woke. I’d only gotten as far as donning my own pants before I had to leave the room so she didn’t suspect anything. However, her response when she saw me shirtless had been worth it. *’The way her eyes had roamed over me, the blatant desire in her gaze…’* I shivered, trying to force the fantasy from my mind. I just had to get Trisha through this, and hopefully, the dream walking would be enough to tide her over.

I glance left and right then behind me but there is no sign of someone. "Hello!? Where am I?" I noticed that my feet were bare and that I didn't even have my pants on, my chest was also bare. I am naked! Why am I walking naked on this dark path? Am I dreaming? Questions were spiraling inside my head and yet I have not one single answer. My heartbeat began to race, and my hand clamped on my chest as I felt it beating wildly like it was going to explode inside. "Ugh! Can someone please help me!"

➳ Pernwél Illuminated by the moonlight, I follow the path laid out in front of me. It looks as if the trees have moved out of the way to make space, leaving roots and lifting the ground in their wake. As I kept walking through the dark forest, the snow cracked beneath my feet. Just then, I realised I’m barefoot and wearing nothing but a thin white nightgown. I can’t sense the cold feeling between my toes as the snow and ice slips around them. I should feel ice-cold by now. Strangely, I don’t feel anything except for the uncontrollable urge to keep moving.

I brought this upon myself because of a false idea of freedom, but i would take responsibility for my foolish decision by staying alive. That was the last thought I had when I fell asleep under the cool shade of the coconut tree I laid under. I never dreamt much but today I did The dream: I was walking through a narrow tunnel that had some water on the ground. My feet made patter sounds as I walked through the cave with no destination in mind. Just walking. It felt weird but I could not just stand there so I walked wanting to get out of here but not even knowing whether I was moving in the right direction or not.

That was the priority, nothing more. But just as I settled into bed, a strange dream began to unfold. I was walking through a dense forest, the ground shrouded in mist, and my footsteps made no sound. Ahead, through the trees, I saw a faint glow—a fire, burning low and lonely in the dark.

Cuts and blood now graced the soles of my feet from stepping on the rough ground and stones. Wait a minute… I think I’ve seen this before. I racked my brain… And then it clicked. My dream! I had dreamt about this and I didn’t understand it at that time. So it was a vision? My heart pounded knowing what would come next… as expected I heard the sound of heavy stomping on the ground, coming in my direction.

Or even a coat? A childish part of me insists that I walk out barefoot and careless, but I know better than to give in to such childish thoughts. I was in a stranger's home and by the looks of it I was already a burden. I could not have them look around for a bratty woman who decides to walk barefoot in the snow, could I?

I was at risk of being caught if any of the pack members decided to go for a run on that side of the woods. Somehow, by sheer luck, I made it out of the pack without getting cut, and even though it wasn’t a bag full of clothes, the night dress had helped hide my nakedness a great deal, and I had long given up on finding a slipper to wear. Over time, I’ve gotten used to walking barefoot and ignoring the way the dried fallen tree branches, twigs, and any sort of object pricked the sole of my foot. There are far more dangerous things to worry about when you are alone and five months pregnant in no man's land.

How am I supposed to sleep here? I slowly sat on the bed and ran my hands on the mattress. Gulping down my curiosity and fear, I stood up and set my feet on the ground. Instead of cold ground I felt something feathery rubbing my feet. I looked down and found a pair of soft slippers. Without any thought, I slipped into them. They are soft and I feel like I'm walking wearing feathers and I will fly anytime.
