CHAPTER 20: THE SHIELD OF AETHELGARD The first shell from the H.M.S. Leviathan didn't scream as it fell; it roared with the voice of a god coming to reclaim a stolen world. But I didn't flinch. I didn't even blink.

As she slowly drifted off into her slumber, she couldn’t help but recall the words of Leviathan as it introduced itself, and a thought sprang into her mind. “Is Leviathan a snake of ancient times?? I’d check the library first thing tomorrow morning to find out more.”

He paused, letting their names sink in. “You can’t run anymore.” Behind him, a digital map of the world flickered on screen. One by one, every major country lit up in red. “I have activated Leviathan.” Ayesha’s stomach twisted. Priya’s hands froze over her keyboard. Leena muttered, “That doesn’t sound good.” Davos continued, his voice chillingly smooth. “In twenty-four hours, the world’s financial systems, security databases, and digital infrastructure will belong to me.” Ayesha clenched her fists.

Like a picture rising from deep, dark water, details once blurred now sharpening around the edges. Conversations. Faces. Dim hotel rooms. Secret exchanges in smoky bars. Making him fall to his knees Trixie rolled out of his hand and started running towards Shawna and Tavie. “Do yall really think this is the time to talk about who’s to blame.” Trixie yelled, glancing back seeing that the Leviathan was already up and his leg was growing back. “Yes because we wouldn’t be in this mess if you didn’t have to have those damn grenades.” Tavie said as he fired his gun again at the Leviathan. “Would you stop firing that water gun at that thing you’re just pissing him off at this point.” Shawna said, firing another missile at the same leg that was growing back but the Leviathan slap the missile away. *** Levi’s dreamless slumber was so blissful that he woke up fully rested even before the alarm he set up on his communicator yesterday night started ringing. Levi stared at the treasure sleeping in his arms for a while, his eyes soft and lips unconsciously upturned. Then he utilized his power to stealthily get out of bed without disturbing his darling’s slumber. Levi washed his teeth and took another thorough shower, after which he didn’t bother putting on any clothes. He checked the time on the wall clock, confirming that his baby should be waking up any minute now. And then, with hot blood roiling inside his veins, he returned back to bed to properly handle his sleeping beauty.
